A New Journey Begins

CT scan on the leg was negative last week, so I’m thankful to be able to wind back up the cycling and running for the first time since April! Stay tuned for where that may lead in the season ahead. However, in the mean time, I’m going to join my 14 year old daughter on what is likely to be a very interesting nutritional journey over (approximately) the next 2 months. She has kept her head high and her smile bright through some pretty serious responses to various foods, and is now ready to participate in a “Food Elimination Discovery Journey.” Since a lot of folks deal with these issues, I figured it would be a valuable experience to join her in this journey and share some thoughts along the way with you. Obviously my experience and findings won’t provide you any answers for yourself, but perhaps experiencing the journey through this blog will be an encouragement to those of you who have considered doing the same. Or maybe, just for those of you who have considered taking your own eating plan seriously, this will be a good time to give it a try. We’re already completely gluten free, but in our new journey together, we’ll completely eliminate all sources of refined sugar, dairy, breads, alcohol, eggs, nuts, seasonings and several other components. Then, we’ll gradually add specifics back in, checking the body’s response to each. The long term result will be clarity around which foods her to avoid her reactions. And for me, I’m mainly doing it to support her (Suzanna is doing the same). My secondary goal is to see if any specific food impacts energy levels, training performance, mental acuity or depth of sleep. I’ll make a conscious effort to enter a blog post at least once/week with updates, findings and thoughts. Stay tuned!
